The Idlers - Los indolentes 1979

The Alday family lives locked up in a large house which is falling to pieces, after the agrarian reform of President Lazaro Cardenas takes away their hacienda "La Esperanza" (Hope). While the grandson Rosendo tries to come to terms with this cruel reality, his mother and grandmother refuse to accept their fall from grace. Worst of all none of them are able to return the family to their previous prosperity. The grandmother sits in the garden helplessly watching the ants take it over whilst the mother shows increasing signs of madness. Rosendo lives a life of indolence.
